Around three million credit cardholders are planning to shift excess pounds to new credit cards at the start of the new year, according to new research.
The findings from Abbey also reveal that an average £2,666 is to shifted onto new deals by consumers in the first few months of 2008, while men were planning to switch more money around than women.
Commenting on the findings, Abbey Credit Cards managing director Roger Lovering said the statistics showed that people want to organise their finances in the coming weeks.
"Its great to see that many people are already turning their attention to getting their finances in order," he explained.
"January credit card bills can often catch people by surprise, so we would encourage people to keep a check on their finances over the festive season and plan ahead to ensure they arent paying over the odds for their plastic."
The savings manager for advice firm AWD Chase de Vere, Susan Hannums, echoed the calls for people to organised their finances in the coming months, stating that it was "no secret" that 2008 is set to be a tough year financially.
